| | Planned Parenthood under attackFebruary 18, 2011 - Terry EstepToday the GOP-controlled House voted 240-185 to block federal funding to Planned Parenthood. Mike Pence, R-Ind., said "It is morally wrong to take the taxpayer dollars of millions of pro-life Americans and use them to fund organizations that provide and promote abortion." I have to disagree. Wholeheartedly. If it's morally wrong to spend our tax money on things we don't like, then there isn't a politician alive who could rise above the karmic level of an blind toad with leprosy being raised in a bordello with poor ventilation. Saint Reagan is probably hopping into a wall at this moment. Why should abortion be so special? While Pence is working to find new and exciting ways to strip women of their power to make decisions about their own health, I can think of a few key areas where I don't want my tax money going. Guantanamo Bay, military show trials and indefinite detentions. Unconstitutional spying on American citizens. Drone attacks on civilians. Texas (nothing specific... although I could spare a few dimes for Austin). Oh, and South Dakota. It's cold there, and they just tried to carve out a "justifiable homicide" exemption for people who murder doctors who perform abortions. NOT A PENNY FOR SOUTH DAKOTA! Planned Parenthood does a lot of good for this nation. They provide health services for millions of people who otherwise would have to go without. Among the services they provide, outlined in a floor speech by Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., are pap tests, breast exams, gynecological exams, flu vaccinations, cholesterol screenings, stop-smoking programs, and contraception. Thanks to the Hyde Amendment, Planned Parenthood is already barred from spending taxpayer money for abortions except in cases of rape, incest, or to save a woman's life. The Republican war on women continues. Article Comments(27)Kendall78Oct-07-11 3:34 PM lol...a delayed ty to you BuckinEer. Not to mention that when she said, ""token liberal" to consult her Scrabble..". I think the blogger here is a guy. SarahKMar-30-11 1:10 PM By the way Kendell, don't you find it ironic you're telling "token liberal" to consult her Scrabble (with a capital S, by the way) board if she runs out of long words, when you yourself can't properly spell "please"? (Hint: it has vowels and there's no 'z' in it.) SarahKMar-30-11 1:08 PM I have to agree entirely. However I wouldn't author the article as "token liberal", all that does is make folks already disregard the relevant information you present. Like AshleyW, I appreciate that you pointed out the other services Planned Parenthood offers. I actually just went to a Planned Parenthood (not for an abortion, by the way, to get a prescription for birth control) for the first time yesterday, although I had long been a Planned Parenthood and pro-choice proponent. Not only was I not confronted by, or even saw the slightest glimpse of, anything having to do with abortion at all, the environment was comfortable and welcoming. I'm an adult, but still in college and under my parents general health care watch, and couldn't have asked my parents to go to the doctor to get a birth control prescription myself; my sexuality, especially as an adult, is my own buisness and PP recognizes that and offers affordable preventative options for adults and teens. If it hadn't be EstherMar-16-11 1:26 PM It's funny how nobody believes in abortion until their 15-year-old daughter comes home pregnant. But that's somehow "different." Kendall78Feb-22-11 10:29 PM @4thebetterofpburg- Plz...don't over do it. I wouldn't want you to run out of words and have to consult your scrabble game for new ones. But plz...keep on commenting in the manner that you seem comfortable with. All it does is damage what little standing you have on here. Kendall78Feb-22-11 1:41 PM @4thebetterofpburg-Ah..I see now. You don't actually have a mature opinion on the topic or on the topic of homosexuality. I would guess you are a 20 something (being nice there because the older you are the more pitiful your actions) that either is looking for attention or has very little experience beyond your own small world. SpeicherFeb-21-11 4:43 PM No tax dollars to end life in the womb, the sick or the elderly! Choose life! AshleyWFeb-21-11 8:19 AM (cont'd) Narrow-minded individuals such as yourself are so concerned with putting the rest of society down you forget to live and enjoy your own life, so I almost feel sorry for you. This world, country, state, and town will be a much better place when you just open your heart and your mind and embrace and respect everyone sharing it. AshleyWFeb-21-11 8:19 AM @ 4thebetterofpburg Even though bigots like you try and break people like me (yes I happen to be a lesbian) I refuse to let you. I am perfectly welcome in this state and any state-whether you like it or not. I am a gainfully employed woman who pays my taxes, and I also happen to be a valuable asset to my community wherein I volunteer with multiple charities and actively contribute to the positive betterment of my neighborhood and larger community. My sexuality doesn’t define me, but I am a human being-and a good one at that. You may have the freedom to spew your hate and bigotry, but I have the freedom to exist and without even knowing you I think it’s safe to say I am a better person than you. After all, I am a diverse, open-minded, progressive person who can see the good and value in everyone regardless of their orientation, race, gender, age, citizenship, creed, physical or mental disability, ethnicity, national origin, physical appearance, religion, or political affiliation. Narro mythravereFeb-21-11 6:01 AM So a "*****" has no rights. Who decides this? You can believe that but thats all you can do. This guy is perfectly welcome in this state. This guy is a human being just like you and me. This guy has the freedom to live his life as he wishes. If you believe he has no rights based on religious grounds...well I am sorry to bust your bubble but this is not a Theocracy. PeacewithinFeb-21-11 2:47 AM for the amendment. Mr. Estep is right on some points, I don't want my money being used for those things. When a women has an option readily available, why not use it. PeacewithinFeb-21-11 2:41 AM Planned Parenthood does provide good services for women. If a women is raped or has unprotected sex and sometimes accidents do happen, when a ****** breaks. There is a Morning- After Pill available. It must be used within 5 days. The Morning- After Pill works by keeping the woman's ovaries from releasing eggs. If each woman that has had unprotected sex, or an unforseen accident, or worse, has been raped, this would definately help the image of PP. Ashley W. please don't say that some women do society a favor by having an abortion, it is a tragedy when a women is raped, but when some women don't use birth control and have sex,or the man doesn't use a ******, it is heartbreaking to see pictures of a fetus with arms, legs & body and hearing of late term abortions. This is murder. I am not a Republican. I do not want my tax dollars going for the killing of a fetus/baby or a late term abortion. Also if I have read the article correctly on the votes, there were 11 Democrats that voted for AshleyWFeb-20-11 11:04 PM @ 4thebetterofpburg How dare you say the author has no rights simply because of his sexual orientation! Thanks to the 1st Amendment we all have the right to speak our minds on here, or anywhere, no matter what our differing points of view may be. And in the future please refrain from using the word “*****” (even though you can’t even spell it) it’s quite offensive especially in your context. Oh, and while I’m pointing out erroneous errors your comment should read “their staff” not ‘there’ staff. I will be more inclined to take some of you posters more seriously when you learn how to properly compose a sentence-let alone a thought. Kendall78Feb-20-11 9:03 PM @4thebetterofpburg- Personal attacks are quite foolish and childish. The writer's sexual preference is not the issue of his writing, therefor it is not relevant for you to bring it up. Now then, on the topic. I do not approve of the aspect PP takes on the topic of abortion. I wish they would stop that, but I do recognize they contribute other worthy aspects to our nation. I say, improve on the good and get rid of the bad. ddp996Feb-20-11 7:57 PM Democrats say they are pro-choice, yet I am not permitted to choose my own light bulb. I am however allowed to commit murder against an innocent child through abortion. What is wrong with these people??? JustAnOleHillibillyFeb-20-11 4:42 PM Ashley, if as you say "The final decision is a woman’s and a woman’s alone. It is not for you, our government, or even the sperm donor to decide!" Then it should be up to the woman and the woman alone to pay for the abortion. It shouldn't be paid for by me, our government or even the sperm donor. AshleyWFeb-20-11 10:20 AM Sneezbug I almost don’t even want to justify your post with a response since you clearly have no idea what you’re talking about and your spelling and grammar are so atrocious. But, since you are so blatantly wrong I will take the time to educate you. First off it’s “legal rights” “legally” and “fetus” now that we have that cleared up on to the other fallacy at hand. The father does not have any rights or say in an abortion. The Supreme Court ruled in Roe v Wade that pregnancy termination is strictly between a woman and her doctor. And, if a woman is over 18 she doesn’t need her parents’ permission or approval either. We are not property—of the State or of our parents after the age of consent. The final decision is a woman’s and a woman’s alone. It is not for you, our government, or even the sperm donor to decide! sneezbugFeb-19-11 3:18 PM AshleyW - there are othe sources of information than abortion clinics. Plus, the father also has leagle rites also. is he knows of this and wants the baby - he can leagally force the woman to carry the fetis full-term sneezbugFeb-19-11 3:16 PM du, yes. state ran abortion clinics. i dont want my tax money supporting them. pro-life. do you want your daughter getting an abortion without you knowing??? if she really needs an abortion, the hospital can prform them. AshleyWFeb-19-11 9:03 AM Scotty you seem to be one of those conservatives who once again fails to look at the facts and evidence before making judgements. Many Planned Parenthoods don't even perform abortions so you can't lump the entire organization together. A woman doesn't choose to be raped so why therefore should she be forced to also carry the lifetime burden of rearing a child and be constantly reminded of the crime against her? Many women who choose abortion are doing society a favor. Having a child when you are a young, unprepared, uneducated woman is not doing anyone any favors. Most likely they will fail to get a higher education and become dependent on government assistance thus creating an even bigger burden on society and tax payers. Most conservatives are already against social welfare so why make women dependent on it by taking away their options? People like you are the problem, people like me have solutions. Sex education should be a right and it should be taught in schools! Fortunately, pla ScottyFeb-19-11 8:42 AM And to continue... You will have to use a better excuse than the ones in your article to convince any sensibly, morally minded person that government funding is a "win" for women, for the majority of us it is an act of murder and millions of Americans DO NOT agree it should be funded... If someone wants an abortion, they should pay for it and not use our tax dollars as an excuse to not have responsible sex. As it is, by the way in most of the cases. So, maybe in the 70's when there was the "free love, peace etc" movement going on in this country you could get by with these outlandish comments. But today, people have finally started to wise up and see abortion for what it really is. Money making legalized Murder. One more thing..Most of the directors of PP that have left that organization will tell you, they are pressured to preform more and more abortions to meet their financial goals..So, there you have it, it is not about women, it has never been about wome ScottyFeb-19-11 8:40 AM I have to laugh...war on women??? Really?? The "services you mentioned, btw taken from the same quotes all the liberals use in their biased anaylsis is comical at best. Any of these services can be given at any doctors office or health care screening facility of which many are offered for free. The problem is abortion and you the liberals know that..Women are being exploited by PP and have been for years...for profit. period. It's not about womens health care nor emotional well being, it's about the money. Abortion is a big business, and murder of the innocent at the hands of greedy people has to stop and Thank goodness people are starting to wake up to the fact that over 6 Million people have been murdered at the hands of abortionists. These are people who could have changed our world for the better, teachers, scientists, presidents,etc.... who knows the depths of our transgressions. You will have to use a better excuse than the ones in your article to convince any sensibl Post a Comment | |
