Information could have silenced rumors
The deaths of two teenagers in a single-vehicle accident is a tragedy nearly beyond words or comprehension When the tragedy occurs in a normally peaceful community, such as Belpre, it adds to the horror, while also reinforcing that tragedy can strike everywhere. Obviously when two young lives are taken as in the deaths of Alex Joy, 15, and Mitchell Fisher, 13, a passenger in the truck Joy was driving shortly before 4:30 a.m. Aug. 15 on Farson Street in Belpre, there are many questions left for police to answer .... answers the public is still waiting to hear. Family and friends are left to grieve and wonder what happened and why. Rumors swirling about the tragedy and what led to it only cause more grief and despair to those directly affected. The media has the unenviable and depressing task of informing the community of such tragedies. Part of that task is to give the best available information, which also can throw cold water on fast-spreading rumors.
