Belpre schools issues still remain
Last week I took issue with the Belpre Board of Education discussing an end-around to get more revenue for the school district by utilizing a tax via the inside millage purportedly permitted under Ohio law. The board held a special meeting last Monday night in which four board members in attendance were confronted by more than 200 people in the audience, many of whom spoke out against the inside millage proposal. Even though the board president had said there would not be a vote on the issue, contending it was merely up for discussion at the special meeting, the president quickly informed the attendees the issue was dead. She said all four of the board members present were opposed to enacting an inside millage. The fifth member of the board was not present and the president did not speak for that absent member.
