Brozak leads university bands
COLUMBIA, S.C. — There were no dreams of teaching music and marching for George Brozak while growing up in Stewart, Ohio. “In high school, teaching marching band wasn’t even a thought,” said Brozak, 40. “For a long time I wanted to go into medicine.” Now, Brozak has just begun his second year as the director of Athletic Bands and associate director of Bands at the School of Music at the University of South Carolina. “While I was in high school – with Francis Angelos as my band director – I realized I really, really liked music,” Brozak said. “Having a good mentor drew me more and more to music.” After graduating from Federal Hocking High School in 1986, he went to Ohio University and earned a degree in Music Education as well as a master’s degree. He then spent several years teaching at both Federal Hocking and Tiffin Columbian high schools before earning his doctorate.
