These guys are the real deal

August 28, 2008

PARKERSBURG — Difference makers and impact players are the same individuals who hear their name time and again on the public address system during Friday night football. It doesn’t matter what side of the ball they line up. With Ohio schools one week into their season and West Virginia programs ready to embark on their season-openers, members of the News and Sentinel sports staff narrowed a lengthy list of players to watch for the 2008 campaign down to its elite 11. ? Jake Young, Ravenswood: If the coaching staff at West Virginia University is aware of his talents then Young has to be considered the real deal. At 6-foot-4 and 224 pounds, the first-team, all-stater from a year ago punishes opposing ballcarriers from his linebacker position. He also carries himself well in the classroom with a 3.2 grade-point average and a 29 on his ACT.
