VIENNA-Three months still remain until the arrival of LPGA Tour professional Brittany Lincicome, but time is winding down for groups and organizations intending on submitting grant applications for the 41st annual Sour Mash Memorial.
The deadline for submitting grant applications is June 1. Applications forms can be found on both the Parkersburg and Wood County rotary club websites at www.parkersburgrotary.org or www.woodcountyrotary.com.
Grant recipients from last year's Sour Mash Memorial are ineligible for 2012 funds. Last year's event raised $25,000 for both scholarship and grant recipients.
With support from various individuals, local businesses and community charities, the two rotary clubs have raised well over $1 million for local charities.
This year's Sour Mash Memorial, which is a combination of the Wood County Celebrity Classic Golf Tournament and the Sour Mash Open, will take place on Monday, July 16 at Parkersburg Country Club.
Making her annual visit is the 26-year-old Lincicome, who is No. 12 in the Rolex rankings and 18th overall on the LPGA Tour money list with $126,304 in earnings this season. Her parents, Tom and Angie Lincicome, are from the Mid-Ohio Valley. Her father graduated from Parkersburg High School, while her mother is from Point Pleasant.
Known as 'Bam Bam' by her golfing peers because of her driving distance, Brittany Lincicome has placed in the top 10 in two events this season.
She finished tied for second at the ISPS Handa Women's Australian Open and finished ninth at the Kia Classic in California.
Lincicome is in line to win a Kia Optima Limited as part of the Kia Power Drive rankings.
Entering this week's Tour event - the LPGA Lotte Championship in Hawaii - she currently ranks first in driving distance at with a 275-yard average.
Ranked second at 273 is Tour rookie Maude-Aimee Leblanc.
