We recently got some hateful political emails from our right-wing friends. We usually just delete them and forget it, but this time I insisted we tell them in a nice way we supported and were going to vote again for the president they had just trashed. I am sure there are hateful emails out there from the left, but we only seem to get the ones from the right that are totally unacceptable in language and content.
I believe we need to reject hateful and inflammatory rhetoric from the right or from the left. We all want the same things - we just have a difference of opinion on how to get there. It serves no useful purpose to throw in untruths to bolster our argument. The misinformation about President Obama's health care plan that people believe is astounding and depressing not to mention all the unfounded rumors about the president's religion and place of birth.
We need thoughtful debate of the issues and the best ideas implemented. In other words, we need to work together and to "compromise." That's what worked in the past and that can work in the future. We need to forget political parties and become Americans again - red, white AND blue.
